Overview
Perryfields Primary came to Springfield looking for a single storey, open plan classroom building to replace their tired old Pre-School building.
The school wanted a partner who would listen, understand what they needed and work with them to bring their own ideas to life, with the flexibility to accommodate changes as the project progressed.
The new building had to stay within the school’s budget without compromising on quality, and be delivered on time.
Above all, the aim was to create a modern environment for the Pre-School’s children, staff and families.
The Client
Perryfields Primary is a two form entry community primary school in Oldbury, West Midlands, teaching around 360 pupils aged 4 to 11. The school also runs its own on-site Pre-School. Site Manager Tony Roseblade was our main point of contact, working alongside Terry, Clair and Jen from the school team.
The Requirements
The school needed a new building to replace their tired old Pre-School, giving their youngest children a modern space to learn and play.
The brief covered:
- A single storey building
- An open plan classroom layout
- Staying within the school’s budget without compromising on quality
- Delivery on time

What Springfield Did
- Visited the site to see the existing Pre-School building, then listened to the school team and discussed their vision for the new space.
- Put forward our proposal for the building, then refined it together with the school until the final design was agreed.
- Managed the full scope of the project from start to finish, including demolition, planning, building control and groundworks.
Key Issues
- Timeline – The new building had to be open ahead of the pupils’ return from the summer holidays.
- Access – Fences were removed and reinstated where required to get the building onto site.
- Budget – We worked closely with the school team to stay within budget without compromising the quality of the building.
Design Features
- An exterior colour chosen to sit comfortably alongside the existing school buildings.
- A space designed specifically around everything the Pre-School needed.
- Additional landscaping by our groundworkers, agreed on site with the school, for a better finish.

Springfield worked with us to stay within our budget without compromising on the quality of the finished building. They also delivered the project on time, which was extremely important to us.
Walking into the finished building for the first time was a really special moment. It has completely transformed our Pre-School and created a fantastic, modern environment for our children, staff and families. We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved.
We would like to sincerely thank everyone at Springfield for their hard work, professionalism, patience and commitment throughout the whole project. We genuinely couldn’t have wished for a better company to work with, and we would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Springfield to anyone considering a building project.
