Smithills School, Bolton, Greater Manchester

Overview

Smithills School were in urgent need of additional teaching space to provide accommodation for a pupil referral unit comprising 4 classrooms and 2 food tech facilities with partitions offering flexibility in room size.

The 16-bay modular building was to be sited in an area that encroached on an existing staff car park. We replaced this facility with a new car park area fully secured with controlled gate access for both vehicles and pedestrians.

The Challenge

The two major challenges Springfield faced were the need to design, manufacture, transport and install the 16 modular units within a tight timeframe along with managing the groundworks and utilities connections.

• Time Constraints – Springfield were able to manage a 12 week turnaround from order to handover, including a 5 week on-site fit-out.
• Challenging Utilities Connections – the food tech classrooms required significant utility connections to provide the power required.

What Springfield Did

• Collaboration: Worked with Rachel Cannon at Smithills School to understand her precise needs and discussed the many options available both inside and out
• Full Turnkey Service: Provided a full turnkey package handling all aspects of the job after planning permission. This included groundworks, utility connections, landscaping, access ramps, full fit-out including food-tech equipment, & air conditioning

• Coordination: Managed the full project synchronising all the required activities and functions to ensure an on-time delivery within the tight time scale.
