Overview
GB Railfreight appointed Springfield Modular as their preferred supplier of all modular accommodation in 2020. They needed to upgrade all staff welfare accommodation throughout their network and Springfield met their specific and varied needs and requirements across the UK.
Each building is designed to suit their diverse needs for staff, welfare and office accommodation offering a combination of facilities including – office, shower rooms, toilets and canteen space.
We were also able to supply their external doors, windows, legs and plastisol panels in Sargasso Blue to match their external corporate colour way as seen above.
Eight sites have currently benefited from a Springfield make over with a mixture of long-term hire and permanent modular projects.
The Client
GB Railfreight is a UK based freight train operating company. They operate freight trains that move goods around the UK, transporting a wide range of freight including shipping containers, construction materials, biomass for power stations and other bulk materials.
The Challenge
Having worked with GB Railfreight on 8 similar units we have a thorough understanding of their requirements and work closely with them to provide the exact accommodation they require which differs slightly from site to site.

What Springfield Did
- Worked with GB Railfreight to optimise the space available to best suit their needs. Ensuring the accommodation provided a safe and welcoming welfare environment for the staff.
- Constructed the two jack leg units in our St Helens workshop using a plastisol exterior that colour matched their corporate colours and spray painted the jack legs that supported the double stacked units in the same colourway.
- Carried out a full site survey of the trackside location to ensure the difficult access to the site didn’t pose a major problem for the transport and crane required to deliver and site the double stacked units.
Design Features
- Colour matched the exterior to the GB Railfreight corporate colours.
- Included a staircase to provide external access to the top level of the building.
- Installed climate control to all areas: Office, canteen, toilets, showers and changing accommodation
