Our mission is to establish lasting relationships with our customers by providing quality portable/modular buildings at an affordable price, whilst at all times maintaining the highest level of professionalism, integrity and honesty.

Springfield has been manufacturing quality modular buildings and portable accommodations for over 50 years.

We are a family-run business, started by the late Ken Britner back in 1973. We now occupy over 40,000 square feet of manufacturing space and employ a highly trained, conscientious, skilled workforce and can provide a full turn-key package from initial concept with design through to building completion.

Meet the Springfield team

At Springfield, we believe excellence starts with people – and ours are the best in the business.

Our company is rooted in the meticulous craftsmanship and unwavering customer focus championed by co-founder Ken Britner. Today, that legacy lives on through a truly dedicated, family-led team who continue to uphold the Springfield promise.

Lyndsey Duggan, Ken’s daughter and our Managing Director, leads the business with the same values that shaped Springfield from day one. She’s supported by a powerhouse of passion and experience – including her husband, Graham Duggan (Operations Manager), and Mum, Carole Britner (Director), who drive our continuous improvement initiatives. Together, they ensure our family ethos and commitment to outstanding service remain at the heart of everything we do.

Our broader leadership team is just as exceptional.

Diane Rajcza, our General Manager, has been part of Springfield since 1980 – a walking embodiment of our mantra: “Once a Springfield customer, always a Springfield customer.” She’s a guardian of our renowned customer service and ensures every client interaction reflects our values.

Keith Hynes, Project & Technical Manager, brings a wealth of industry expertise from his time at Portakabin. Friendly, knowledgeable, and innovative, Keith helps clients navigate the many possibilities our modular buildings offer. Alongside him is Matt Gibson (Project Manager), another Portakabin alum, who ensures that every project – from groundworks to final delivery – runs like clockwork.

Paul Guy, our National Business Development Manager (yes, another Portakabin pro), is on a mission to spread the Springfield name across the UK, making a compelling case to consider Springfield when exploring the need for additional space, while Graham Weston, our National Sales Manager, injects energy, sharp presentation skills, and outstanding client support – honed during years with a Blue-chip telecoms firm.

Behind the scenes, Claire Frodsham (Admin Manager) and Simon Hampson (Factory Manager) keep our operations sharp. From sourcing top-tier, eco-friendly materials to maintaining cost-efficiency and driving production excellence, they make sure we deliver on time, on budget, and above expectations.

Rounding out our leadership team is David Lee, Growth Consultant, who brings strategic insight into sales, marketing, business development and financial control. His guidance helps us reach more clients across the UK, expand Springfield’s impact nationwide and remain financially strong.

And of course, no introduction would be complete without acknowledging the heart of our operations – our skilled craftsmen, proudly known as “The Dream Team.” They’re the ones who bring our quality promise to life, building each project with pride, precision, and passion.

In the beginning

 

From a working class background in Wigan, Ken started his career working in the caravan industry where he learned his trade at a grass roots level as an apprentice on the shop floor. However Ken was always a bit of a young entrepreneur, keen to do things his way, so he and a work colleague made the bold move of starting their own caravan business in 1973. Through hard work and determination they built a successful business producing a wide variety of furnished caravans, many of which can still be seen on the road to this day, a testament to the quality of the materials used and the workmanship of the employees.

This dedication to quality and attention to detail attracted the attention of a local Business who were looking for a Company who could manufacture mobile accommodation for them. During these discussions the Directors of Springfield recognised there was a growing market for portable buildings.

Consequently Springfield changed their focus from caravans to portable buildings and the Company never looked back, growing year on year and eventually moving completely in to the manufacture of quality modular and portable buildings.

During the following years we have continued to develop a wide range and choice of product to meet every imaginable need. Our continuing success resulted in the need for a greater production facility and in 2008, we moved to our new 40,000 sq.ft location in St Helens.

We took this opportunity to extend and develop our range of portable buildings moving in to 2 and 3 storey multi span units with a wide range of external and internal finishes.

We believe we offer the most flexible service on the market, and can meet any need from the simplest portable and temporary buildings to the most individual. We provide a truly one stop shop facility offering full turnkey projects including foundations, car parks and service connections all managed by a project manager assigned to you and your project.

Springfield continues to be run as a Family business with, as mentioned above, Ken & Carole’s daughter Lyndsey, now picking up the day-to-day responsibility for managing the business as Managing Director. Lyndsey is well placed to handle the job having spent all her working years in the business, understands the business inside out and ensures the strong customer service ethic laid down over the years is retained.
